Jim Blackstock Communications was formed in 2004 by Jim Blackstock, who has developed a realistic approach to getting a message across as quickly and effectively as possible.
Blackstock has 29 years’ experience of consumer magazine publishing, alongside 20 years of PR and Marketing understanding, in fields including the FIA World Rally Championship, Formula One, Champ Cars and the British Touring Car Championship arena.
Having completed his Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Blackstock soon realised that his path would leave the design of power stations behind and head towards the written word. He secured his first job in publishing in 1991, when he joined Fast Car magazine. Two years later, he was asked to join the launch team of Max Power magazine, as Technical Editor, before eventually taking over the role of Editor.
Another opportunity soon presented itself, in the form of Revs magazine. Following a year of researching the proposition, Blackstock launched the magazine and ran it successfully for three years before spotting an opportunity too good to miss.
He joined the Hyundai World Rally Team as PR Manager at the beginning of the 1999 WRC season, and was responsible for managing the team PR for three years. At the end of the 2001 season, Blackstock moved teams to Mitsubishi Ralliart, where he remained until the manufacturer withdrew from the sport.
He then took up a position at Cosworth Racing Ltd in 2003, one of the most iconic names in performance motoring and motorsport. He was responsible for the company’s press, PR and Marketing strategies for its motorsport and aftermarket road car work, in the UK, Europe and the USA.
Cosworth was subsequently sold by Ford at the end of 2004. Blackstock seized this opportunity to start his own business, offering effective PR, Marketing and communications services to the automotive, motorsport and publishing industries.
